.:. A new era of Pokemon is about to begin here .:.

Introduction

Evs stands for "effort values". They are points you earn after you have beaten another Pokemon in a battle. You can obtain Evs from every Pokemon however certain Pokemon will give you certain EVs. Evs can be gain for any of the six stats, whether it being for - HP, Attack, Defence, Speed Sp. Attack, or Sp. Defence. The maximum Evs you can earn overall is 510, thus giving you 252 to max out two chosen stats and 6 Evs left over which you should use for HP. Evs will increase your Pokemon stats. The stat difference is more noticeable the higher level your Pokemon is. Ev trained Pokemon will basically give you an advantage over non EV tarined Pokemon in battle and they are worth much more than even lv100 Pokemon when it comes to trading.

How do I start EV training?

First off you should choose the Pokemon and the stat you wish to EV it in. Battling and defeating certain Pokemon will give EV points which range from 1 to 3. When you get full EVs in one stat, that is one extra stat point in that stat. Each Pokemon gives a different type(s) of EV points, usually what the Pokemon best stats are. For example, an Salamance would give three points in Attack, whereas a Porygon-Z would give three in SP. Attack. However since you can't battle these Pokemon in the wild it would be best to battle other Pokemon.

Below is a list of common Pokemon and their locations which would be best to battle for EVs.

HP:
*Shellos at Valley Windworks north (1 EV)
*Gastrodons at Fuego Ironworks (2 EVs)
*Gastrodons outside of Pal Park (2 EVs)

Attack:
*Kricketune and Bidarel at Route 212 (2 EVs each)
*Bibarel at Route 208 (2 EVs)
*Machoke at Acuity Lakefront (2 Evs)

Defense:
*Cave with Geodudes and Hippopotas off Route 214, Ruin Maniac's Cave (1 EV each)
*Gravelers on Iron Island in the second room (2 EVs Gravelers)

Special Attack:
*Gastly at the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest (1 EV) (Haunters 2 EVs) (Gengars 3 EVs)
-Need GBA Game in GBA slot and National Pokedex for Haunters and Gengars
*Golducks surfing in the water at the Resort Area (2 EVs)

Special Defense:
*Surfing any ocean/sea area for Tentacools (1 EV)
*North of 8th gym town for Mantykes (1 EV)

Speed:
*Raticates and Fearows Northwest of the Fight Area (2 EVs)
*Zubats in a cave (1 EV)
*Golbats in Victory Road (2 EVs)

Tips

~ It is best to raise the EVs of the Pokemon's best stats. This is benificail for competitive battling, as each Pokemon has a role in the team and there fore you would want your Pokemon to do its job for the team.
~ Pokerus is a rare condition that your Pokemon might catch from battling another wild Pokemon. However do not search for it, as it is extremely rare. The purpose of Pokerus is to double the amount of EVs a Pokemon gets when defeating another Pokemon. For example where you would normally earn 2 EVs from Bibarel you would now earn 4 EVs.
~ Another way to boost the rate at which you gain EVs is by using the Macho Brace. This item, like Pokerus, doubles the amount of EV's your Pokemon earns, but also lowers speed during the battle.
~ In Diamond and Pearl, there are 6 items (one for each stat) which boosts the amount of EV's by four.
~ The way you spread your EVs between the stats is called an EV spread. Most people max out two stats 252 for each stat and 6 left oever. However if you want, you can spread them out your own way.

Items that effect EVs

Vitamins - (HP UP, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Carbos, Zinc)

Each time you use one of these items, your Pokemon gains 10 EVs for the certain stat. A Pokemon can use 10 of each Vitamin. Therefore is can only gain 100 EVs in each stat from Vitamins. This will save you a bit from training as after you only need to earn 410 more EVs.

PokeRus
Pokerus is a rare condition that your Pokemon might catch from battling another wild Pokemon. However do not search for it, as it is extremely rare. The purpose of Pokerus is to double the amount of EVs a Pokemon gets when defeating another Pokemon. For example where you would normally earn 2 EVs from Bibarel you would now earn 4 EVs.

Power Items
Power Anklet boosts speed, the Band boosts Sp.Defense, the Belt boosts Defense, the Bracer boosts Attack, the Lens boosts Sp.Attack, and the Weight boosts HP.

EXP. Share The EXP. Share not only gives EXP to the Pokemon holding it, it also gives EVs to the next Pokemon switched into. Meaning the user doesn't even have to battle to get EVs. Thi is is a useful way to train low level Pokemon in both EXP and EVs.

Certain Berries in Emerald
In the Emerald version only, there are 6 berries that will decrease a Pokemon's EVs. This is good because if you have trained a Pokemon to a high level, but did not pay attention to the EVs earned then you can feed them these Berries so that their EVs will be erased. Each berry will reduce 10 EVs from their respective stat.

Pomeg Berry: HP
Kelpsy Berry: Attack
Qualot Berry: Defense
Hondew Berry: Sp. Attack
Grepa Berry: Sp. Defense
Tamato Berry: Speed
